Jay Kruse is one of few people in the West who specializes in the design, construction and technique of the Eastern reed flute, the Ney. His teaching approach centers more around gaining a command over the instrument more than any particular style of playing. He has also developed a method for hand drumming that empowers the novice with the tools, knowledge and experiential support necessary for grasping the nuances of rhythm based on an understanding of the mechanics involved - not luck or mimicry. His most recent project is a series of books and videos designed to help people with the challenges of learning to play, and make, the Ney and other bamboo & reed flutes.
